<Using comics as a teaching tool>
☆ Profile of my students:
Age - 17 years old
Grade - Freshman (high school)
Proficiency level - Intermediate high
☆ Goals/objectives of the lesson:
-
Learning English Proverbs
-
Learn how to use and apply English proverbs in the right circumstances
☆ Lessons taught prior to giving the activity:
--> Review English Proverbs Learned Last Time
ex)
Love sees no faults.
Empty vessels make the most noise.
Sleep is better than medicine.
☆ Activity instruction:
First, read the cartoon and understand the situation the main character is in.
Then, in groups of four, discuss the answers to the last question of the comics with the team members and infer the correct answer. Here the answer is one of the ten proverbs they learned last time. (Tip: The answer may not necessarily be one.)
Cartoon:
Title - Find a proverb suitable for the situation

☆ Expected answer:
Sleep is better than medicine.
☆ Expectation effectiveness:
Through this activity, students can review the various English proverbs they learned in the last class once again. In particular, one can develop the ability to understand difficult proverbs learned in class more easily and apply them to real life. We can also develop leadership and communication skills through group discussion activities.
☆ Reflection:
I was never interested in the related field without seeing comics from the beginning. So when the task was given at first, it was very vague about what and where to start. However, just as I made an avatar using Voki last time and used it as a teaching material, I made my own avatar and wrote a story. And unlike Voki, the site was able to express and handle avatars more elaborately. It was good to help me better express the message I wanted to convey. If one day I become a teacher, I think I can use it usefully as one of the tools to easily solve concepts or topics that I find difficult for students.
